Job Description Summary
The Collections Coordinator position will be an integral part of the conservation and exhibition preparation team for the Ancient Egypt and Nubia galleries. This staff member is responsible for a wide range of duties that will support internal museum departments and external consultants, including Conservators, Keepers, Curators, designers, engineers, fabricators and project managers.

Under the supervision of the Special Project Manager, the Ancient Egypt and Nubia Galleries Project Coordinator will work closely with the Museum's conservation, Egyptian section, and exhibitions departments, as well as external designers and fabricators to support the Museum's upcoming Ancient Egypt and Nubia Galleries project. Duties include, but are not limited to, helping move the Museum's collections; capturing and manipulating 3D data related to the museum's collection; integrating 2D and 3D data with artifact reproduction approaches, under guidance of the curatorial department; serving as a liaison with vendors and non-collections museum departments (e.g. Digital Records, Archives, and Publications, Exhibition department, photographers, engineers, 3D scanning and milling companies, etc); and additional duties as related to the position.

Job Description

Duties:

  • Couriering and transporting artifacts between off-site storage and museum.
  • Inventory and coordination of artifacts as needed for graphics and 3D integration.
  • Capture and manipulation of 3D data related to the museum's collection, specifically the Egyptian collection.
  • Integrating 2D and 3D data into the artifact reproduction approaches.
  • Liaising with vendors and non-collections museum departments for project needs.
  • Additional duties as related to the position


Qualifications:

B.A. required in history, museum studies, graphic design, architecture or comparable fields or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Exceptions can be made for highly-qualified holders of Associate's degree. Minimum one to two years of experience. Strong computer design skills needed, with knowledge in 3D design software such as Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, or other similar programs. Archaeological experience is not necessary, but interest in field is welcomed. Experience working with museum collections is preferred; artifact handling and associated skills can be taught while in the position. Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, and written skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet concurrent deadlines. Ability to anticipate and facilitate problems of departmental and institutional coordination and scheduling. Detail oriented, but flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously. Occasional ability to crouch/bend as well as lift up to 50 pounds.
