Assistant Project Scientist position in the Neuroscience Research Institute

Position Description:
The Neuroscience Research Institute invites applications for a part-time (50%) Assistant Project Scientist position in the laboratory of Dr. Dennis Clegg to study retinal cell biology, molecular and cellular aspects of stem cell differentiation, xeno-free and animal component-free methods of cell culture and stem cell differentiation into ocular cells, and research related to the development of stem cell-derived models and therapies for retinal disease. The appointee will be expected to make significant, original, and creative contributions to independently directed research projects. Additionally, the appointee will have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in cellular and molecular biology techniques, data presentation, and experimental design.

Basic qualifications:
A doctoral degree in molecular and cellular biology or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience (including relevant industry experience) in advanced cell culture and molecular biology techniques applicable to human pluripotent stem cells and human retinal pigmented epithelial cells at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have an extensive and excellent record of 1) research in stem cell therapy related to ocular disease, 2) experience conducting research and development on biopharmaceuticals including cellular therapies, gene therapies, antibodies, or nucleic-acid based therapeutics, 3) working knowledge of a scientific computing language such as R or Python, and 4) participation in team projects to generate written reports and effectively communicate with outside collaborators.

Initial appointment is for one year, part-time (50%) with benefits. Continuation beyond this period will be based on performance and availability of funding.
