About the Opportunity:
The Designer/Assistant Project Manager (D/APM) will require a broad set of skills within the realm of project delivery from planning through project completion. The D/APM will be a member of the In-House Design and Construction group, which functions as a subset of the Design and Construction unit within Northeastern University's Facilities Division.

Responsibilities:
The In-House group internally designs and/or manages construction activities on a subset of the university capital project portfolio. The D/APM will support the PM/SPM within the In-House group in delivery of projects and may be the on-site manager on small to medium size projects, when necessary. In addition, the D/APM will also assist the entirety of D&C on design assist projects required of the division. The D/APM will serve a design function including the completion of design documents ranging from feasibility assessments through construction documents that do not require an architectural stamp. The role will require providing support for the SPM/PM in the identification of user/client needs, documenting existing conditions, and engaging consultants as required of the project. Throughout the design process, the D/APM will select finishes and specify furniture/ equipment that align with the project goals and support in the presentation of design proposals to clients. In addition to the design function, the D/APM will also serve a key role in the delivery of projects contained within the In-House portfolio. The role will require the D/APM to assist with project scheduling, cost tracking, and reporting via the university's web-based project management tool, E-Builder. The D/APM will assist in the coordination of the project team's daily work as it relates to overall project timeline. The D/APM will track all budget/cost control information, process purchase orders and invoices, and monitor change control, while maintaining adherence to the committed project budget. The D/APM will ensure proper contract administration of external resources and promote an open interface between internal and external team members. In addition, the D/APM will maintain the administrative duties of project management inclusive of maintaining meeting minutes, providing pertinent information/ drawings to facilitate continue project mobility, as well as documentation of project correspondence.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) plus 2 years of experience in in construction, architecture and/or project management. Or 8 years of experience in design and construction or project management in lieu of the Bachelor's degree. Additional qualifications: Qualifications: | Possess the ability to work independently in difficult and complex tasks; | Must possess the ability to clearly articulate and communicate; | Must possess ability to read and interpret general documents, such as project reports, internal and external communications, and construction drawings | Must possess ability to organize and prioritize workload, be pro-active in identifying project needs/requirements that can be actioned without supervision, track calendar events and meetings, and organize as necessary (agendas/follow-up on actions/minutes). | Strong, documented skills in the areas of organization, problem-solving and personal interactions; | Self- motivated with sound decision-making skills | Proficient in Microsoft Office; Microsoft Project; AutoCad (Mac) | Knowledge of Sketchup and Adobe Programs preferred
