About the Opportunity:

The Master of Science in Project Management program is one of the largest Project Management programs in North America and is a GAC (Global Accreditation Center) accredited by the Project Management Institute, Inc. The Master of Professional Studies in Analytics prepares students to analyze data and identify trends to support tactical and strategic decision making. Classes in both programs are offered in an online or hybrid format across our network of campuses.

Faculty members teach in an online and hybrid environment with a diverse student body. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong teaching abilities and a dedication to continued improvement as an educator.

The position is a full-time, open rank, non-tenure track, renewable appointment located in San Jose, CA

Responsibilities:

This full-time faculty member is expected to bring their intellectual and creative capacity to bear in advancement of the program, seeking to serve students by participating in a range of teaching and non-teaching activities that support the advancement of the program. They will teach a full teaching load spread throughout the year and will work with the program office on administrative issues and programmatic projects.

Faculty enjoy a collegial work environment that allows for work-life balance and are expected to be available to students online as needed.

Teaching & Curricular Oversight (approximately 70% of time)
  • In conjunction with the Program Lead, develop and implement course learning outcomes, curriculum maps, resource guides, textbooks, syllabi templates, and updated course materials; includes campus-specific coursework as desired.
  • Oversee the instruction of specific courses within the curriculum. Responsibilities include supporting the Program Lead in the selection of part-time instructors, advising on syllabi, and evaluating part-time instructor performance.
  • Identify and provide recommendations to keep curriculum relevant and industry-leading.
  • Work with the Program Lead to ensure regional license/accreditation requirements are met.
  • Participate in comprehensive evaluations and periodic reviews as required by the campus in which the campus operates.


Teaching and actual course load may vary with other responsibilities, which include, but are not limited to:

Program & Campus Support (approximately 20% of time)

In consultation with the Program Lead:
  • Program Representation
    • Leverage professional networks and create local events to increase program, college, & University brand.
    • Create and provide oversight of program/industry advisory boards.
    • Represent the program in campus meetings, special events, open houses, and orientations.
    • Represent program in campus accreditation reviews and renewals.
  • Student Support
    • Act as the third line of support for student curriculum/faculty escalations (supporting Program Lead and course Principal Instructor).
    • Serve as faculty sponsor for student-led events and networking opportunities.
  • Faculty Support
    • Recruit and vet qualified candidates for part-time faculty positions, coordinate with Program Lead for secondary interviews and to complete the hiring process with HR.
    • Join campus onboarding meetings for new faculty to provide a face for the program.


Scholarship and Service to the University (approximately 10% of time)
  • Participate in program and faculty committee meetings as applicable.
  • Serve on committees that support the mission of the program and the vision of the College and wider University.


Travel
  • In addition to supporting the campus, occasional travel may be required to the University's global network of campuses.
    • Examples of required travel include the annual CPS Graduation and Faculty Conference.
    • The potential for transnational work is also possible.


Qualifications:

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong teaching abilities and a dedication to continued improvement as an educator. Experience teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, teaching and developing in-person and online courses, and proven success in working with global learners are desired attributes.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and characteristics:
  • A terminal degree from an accredited institution either in project management, analytics, or a related field by appointment start date.
  • An active Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar credential.
  • 10+ years of professional experience at the project manager level.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in advanced analytics or data science.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the broader project management community and the range of project management maturity levels of organizations.
  • Demonstrate a dedication to continued improvement as an educator and a desire to align with the scholar-practitioner model.


Preferred Qualifications:

It is highly desirable that candidates have a track record of presenting to Project Management Chapters, Interest Groups, and other Industry groups on project management topics. Fluency in R and Python as well as familiarity with commonly used tools and techniques in analytics is a major plus (Tableau, Spark, SQL, etc.)

The expected hiring range for Assistant Teaching Professor is USD $76,500 to USD $108,300, based upon the position's scope and responsibilities. The expected hiring range for Associate Teaching Professor is USD $83,700 to USD $138,300 based upon the position's scope and responsibilities. The expected hiring range for Full Teaching Professor is USD $114,300 to USD $160,700 based upon the position's scope and responsibilities.
