Job Summary: Participate in the design and oversee the construction of all College building projects, remodels, and new construction as assigned; and major maintenance projects such as mechanical/electrical/plumbing replacements and upgrades, to ensure college standards and needs are met.Involvement in both remodels and new building projects with reviewing contract documents and plans to ensure that college standards are met. Advise and provide input on any related equipment purchased, or changes to systems as a result of remodels or modifications. Lead MEP commissioning efforts and logging new equipment into CMMS for the department.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Track all work and time in the CMMS.
  • Utilize the CMMS to create PMs for new equipment for campuses and projects, according to department requirements.
  • Supervise projects on multiple campus including large projects funded by DFCM. This is accomplished by: meeting regularly with the A & E team, the general contractor, and sub- contractors to review the progress of the project, and coordinate the efforts of the construction team. Visually inspect the project on a regular basis for quality and craftsmanship to ensure that work is consistent with SLCC standards, plans, and specification. Account for project completion time by coordinating with A & E teams and General Contractors to ensure that the contract completion time is met. Coordinate the completion of new builds and remodels with the arrival of furniture and equipment as needed. Coordinate all aspects of the startup and use of new buildings. As assigned, oversee the maintenance, repair, and replacement of parking lots and roof projects.
  • Assist in the development of design and use of each project, which includes working closely with A & E teams in the development of schematic design and construction documents, as they pertain to each project to ensure that college standards are achieved and that the end users needs are met. This includes working closely with college departmental personnel to ensure their needs are understood and coordinated into the project.
  • Review all construction documents prior to bid, making necessary corrections, so that the colleges needs are met within the budget. These corrections can be on hard copies or via e-mail and electronic drawings and specifications, using the most current version of AutoCAD. Be involved in all aspects of the bidding process. Coordinate with interior design personnel including SLCC staff and contracted designers.
  • Work with outside vendors, engineers, and consultants on projects affecting HVAC systems on buildings, and incorporate their designs into SLCCs. Review blueprints and specifications to ensure HVAC systems, and equipment meet the needs of the college and oversight agencies.
  • Meet regularly with Director of Construction & Trades, DFCM, project managers, architects, contractors, vendors, SLCC Trades& Heat Plant, and other members of the college community regarding HVAC needs of the college.
  • Maintain a working relationship SLCC Personnel.
  • Assist all parties in solutions regarding the current function of SLCC Mechanical Systems.
  • Work with the Energy Manager to promote energy efficient projects and system optimization.
  • Work with outside commissioning teams and create a process for internal commissioning of SLCC projects and equipment replacements and upgrades.
  • Oversee multimillion dollar budgets to small budgets for remodel accounts by verifying all contractor requests for payment, change orders, and all other related construction expenditures. Monitor project budgets using the colleges construction management system to ensure money is spent properly and that adequate funds are available to cover needed change orders. Follow SLCCs established construction process guidelines.
  • Make regular observations regarding the condition of the campus infrastructure.
  • Input work orders and/or initiate improvement projects to ensure that buildings and grounds remain in a state of good repair.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
  • Zero (0) to three (3) years direct, full-time, paid experience as a project manager, construction superintendent or combination of the two, or other related experience.


- Trade off 2:1 in experience/education requirement.
- CAPM certification would equal 1 year of experience or education (30 credit hours).
- Additional project management certifications equal 1 year of experience or education (30 credit hours).
Must have or be able to obtain a valid Utah Drivers License upon offer of position.

Candidates will be considered if they have the following:
- Associates degrees if they have enough experience to trade off additional 2 years (60 credit hours) of higher education.
- Multiple Associates degrees if their total credit hours equal 120 or more.
- Two (2) years post graduate education (60 credit hours) would equal one (1) year related experience.
- Two (2) years of related experience would equal 1 year (or 30 credit hours) of higher education.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer five (5) or more years experience in construction management.Project Management Professional (PMP) CertificationCertified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of HVAC, boiler and chiller operation, large heating and cooling systems, and large plumbing systems. Basic knowledge of electrical systems, Building Management Systems (BMS) and the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Facilities management, project management, and supervisory experience. Knowledge of different types of air distribution systems such as VAV, Double duct, etc. Must be able to read and understand plans, specifications, and contract documents. Excellent public relations skills. Extensive experience in construction methods and procedures. A strong project management and construction background, capable of reading commercial drawings and specifications. Ability to communicate and resolve conflicts. Knowledge of acceptable quality of workmanship standards, construction project management or superintendent experience. Knowledge of building codes and government regulations is essential (i.e., IBC, IFC, federal agencies such as OSHA, EPA and laws such as ADA. Control of construction budgets. Knowledge of carpentry methods and materials. Working knowledge of computers and software, including AutoCAD, E-mail, word processing, and spreadsheets. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
